Hi there! I’m Dena, owner of Dene Shearer Photography. A wedding and elopement photographer based in Dublin who loves to capture weddings of real people just having fun! Laid back, fun and full of life – like it’s supposed to be.

This is me!

I’m Dena, owner of Dena Shearer Photography. I’m a South African who has lived in Ireland for 18 years and just loves it! Ok, the weather took a bit of getting used to but I’m there now ;-)

I’m married to an Irish man, John, and we have two beautiful little children, Elliot and baby Olivia. It’s a madhouse at the moment ;-)

  • I’m a South African who grew up in Botswana, studied at Rhodes University in South Africa and moved to Ireland when I was 22 years old.
  • I love to travel, specifically to hot countries!
  • Delicious food and wine is an essential part of my happiness routine.
  • Festivals, gigs and DJ sets are food for the soul (all this has slowed down since the kiddos came along but the dancing at home hasn’t!)
  • John and I are quite the muso’s but I’m a sucker for 80’s pop!
  • I love dogs, we don’t have one but I’m working on it ;-)
  • A great coffee shop is my dream place.
  • A good walk is spiritual to me.
  • I like my own space but couldn’t live without the buzz of people too.

When John and I tied the knot, we prioritised love, laughter, music, and the company of those dear to us. This philosophy reflects in the weddings I photograph. It’s about cherishing genuine moments, celebrating love, and creating memories with the ones who mean the world to you. Dena Shearer Photography is more than just photography to me. I get to learn you two, your story and your love.

The Dena Shearer Photography Philosophy

At Dena Shearer Photography, I believe that your wedding day should be fully yours. That means tossing the stress, forgetting the traditions that don’t serve you, and making space for genuine joy. Whether you’re planning a destination elopement to Dublin or an intimate wedding with your closest people, my job is to make you feel comfortable, relaxed, and fully seen.

I take a documentary-style approach to photography. That means I won’t constantly direct or interrupt moments—I’ll quietly observe and capture them as they unfold. Think of me as your friendly third wheel with a camera, blending into the background so you can stay fully present.

If you’re traveling from the U.S. to elope in Ireland, I’m here to help every step of the way. I’ve worked with couples from around the world and can offer location suggestions, timelines, and advice to make planning from afar less overwhelming. I’m also passionate about celebrating you. Whether you’re shy in front of the camera, hate traditional wedding photos, or just want something fun and chill, you’re in the right place.
