ISPCC Childline Charity Chroi Yoga Event

When Christina Breen had asked me to help her document a Charity Chroi  Yoga Family Event she was running I jumped at the chance. Not only was it a great way to be a part of a good cause but I was intrigued to see what Chroi Yoga was all about. To be honest I naively thought that only adults did Yoga, which is a bit silly now that I think about it but there you go! Now we were talking about bringing babies, young children and adults all to do Yoga together.. I was very curious.

Christina’s Chroi Yoga Family Event was in aid of ISPCC Childline and held in the beautiful Smock Alley Theatre in Dublin. They had kindly let Christina use their space specifically for the event. What a hidden Gem this is!!  I actually struggled to find it going there and realised, once found it, I had  walked past this old Church (Oldest Shakespearian  Theatres in Ireland) a million times and hadn’t event thought what beauty was inside. The area that was used for the Chroi Yoga Family Event was a massive room surrounded by beautiful stained glass windows creating a superb warm light. STUNNING! So calm and relaxing, a perfect setting for a Yoga session..

As the families started to arrive a little buzz filled the room. Christina settled everyone down to a calm relaxed mood and began a wonderful journey that both parent and child enjoyed in different respects and at the same time nurtured the close bond that they have for one another. It was relaxing, fun, sensitive and full of love and I can only hope that my photographs give it justice as Christina really is one of those lucky people in the world that has found her calling.

Day at the beach with The Green Family

blog 1Mairead and Micheal are another family that have been with me since the start of my photography venture in Ireland. I first photographed little Lauren when she was just seven months old and she was the cutest little girl. She loved the camera which made my work so easy. I then was asked to photograph her 1st birthday party which was a great day and helped alleviate the stress of taking photos on a very busy day for them. Now, nearly two years later they have a new little edition to their family, Conor, who is just as adorable as his sister.blog 6

Taking advantage of the summer we set off to Balbriggan Beach for the family shoot. The day was cloudy but as a photographer I cannot stress how much a few clouds help to create great shots. Lauren just ran around the beach having fun and we all ran after her getting soaked in the process. Lesson learned when doing a beach shoot, don’t wear shoes and bring a change of clothes! The photos were natural and full of emotion, I am so happy with them.

This blog is a huge tribute to Mairead and Micheal who I don’t see just as clients but as friends. I look forward to working with you for the years to come. You guys are are so lovely. xxx

Rebecca and Savannah Kelly

Savannah and Rebecca had won my Toddlers Portrait Competition and although she was thrilled, Rebecca had her heart set on a beautiful day where we could work in St Annes Park and get the most out of the natural light and colours as we could. So, after many, rainy day postponing the day had finally arrived. Both Mum and daughter looked beautiful and Savannah was great to work with. One big learning curve though, stay well away from the playground if you want a shoot to carry on longer! Thankfully we had got most of the shots we wanted and left Savannah to play away. Really happy you like the photos girls, was great to meet you both. xx

Linda, Colin and Senan

When I decided to get back to my Art in Photography at the end of 2013, I approached my friends Linda and Colin who had just had their first child, Senan. They were really warm and happy to have me take their portraits to build my portfolio.

Starting back in photography after leaving it alone for a couple of years is very daunting and if it wasn’t for these guys as well as a couple of other families, (you know who you are) I wouldn’t be working as happily and as hard as I am to do the thing I love most in the world. Naturally I was a bit rusty but they were happy with the photographs and gave me honest positive feedback which helped me grow as an artist. Ever since then Linda and Colin have supported me and recommended me to so many people.

Nearly two years on I have watched little Senan grow into a beautiful young boy, full of character and charm. This time we chose the beautiful Royal Hospital Kilmainham and made the most of the summers’ day that we had. It turned out to be a perfect location for Senan to run freely all over the place and capture him at his most natural.

He has filled their lives with love and happiness. Its just so wonderful to be able to take such special moments over the years and represent them for the family to cherish forever.

Thank you Linda, Colin and Senan xxxx

Klara’s Christening

Aga and Darren invited me to document their lovely daughter, Klara’s Christening at St Patrick’s Church in Glencullen. The party was small and intimate and the church such a stunning little place right on the top of the mountains and conveniently next door to Johnnie Fox’s Pub. Im not going to lie, my imaginary child’s Christening is going to take place right here after seeing the stunning location. The light was really soft and warm in the church so I chose not use the flash to create a more romantic feel. Klara was very well behaved for the little energy ball that she is and looked so cute in her little dress. I hope you had a lovely day Aga and Darren. Really happy that you love the photos.

“The pictures are lovely Dena..they really capture the day and add a bit of romance to what was a pretty low key occasion…Thanks so much. Darren.” Darren King

If you are interested in have me shoot your child’s Christening please contact me via email or my mobile and we can discuss a price that best suits your needs.

Fine Art Mythical Project

I've had this vision in my head of a shoot for ages, I wanted a classic model to portray an almost mystical feel on a dark day at the beach. I am lucky enough to know Barbara Glynn, a lovely Audrey Hepburn looking girl who was kind enough to offer her services as my model and my dear friend Jenny Moore, who is an excellent make-up artist helped me to create the look I wanted. The evening was perfect, Id found the right outfit and we had worked to create lovely make-up. All ready to rock and roll on the beach when the heavens just opened up!! All the preparation and I literally shot for 4 minutes! If I had had a waterproof casing for my camera, poor Babs would have been stuck in the rain for a lot longer. even though the rain was not a pleasant surprise it did work well with the shots as she looks like she literally emerged from the sea behind her. Thanks Barbara and Jennie, you helped me create some beautiful shots.

Quack and Dirk Summer Fashion Shoot

Photos taken in St Annes Park in Dublin portraying a sexy vintage 70’s Glamour fashion shoot from the wonderful boutique store Quack and Dirk. I had approached Deirdre Mahon, the founder of Quack and Dirk and explained I would love to work with her on a fashion shoot for her new summer Collection. She was delighted and excited about the coming shoot. We found a beautiful model Ariadna Casany and together with the awesome Edwina Akano to work on the make-up we had the most magical team. It was a perfect day, with perfect lighting. Here’s to many more!! xxx

Aga, Darren and Klara

Aga came 2nd in one of my portrait competitions so we decided to work outside when it was a lovely day. We chose the outdoor parks where they live in Stepaside, Dublin. These opportunities cannot be missed because they make for such natural photographs that bring out the best in the whole family. Little Klara had his all running around after her but was the most happy, lovely child. Both Aga and Darren are such great people and I look forward to shooting the Christening soon.collage 2collage
